30 Day Challenge: Day 25

Day 25: “Someone who fascinates you and why”

I’m kind of obsessed with the Olsen twins. I don’t talk about it a lot, but it’s true. I have a thing about child stars, particularly those that begin as young as the Olsen’s, because they never had a real chance at doing much of it differently. The Olsen’s have had their issues, like Mary Kate’s eating disorder, but overall, they’re much better off than most child stars. And not just because they are millionaires, though obviously the fact that they had a famous face and money at 18 is a lot better than having a famous face and nothing to show for it like so many child stars.

We can tell without knowing anything about them the Olsen’s family is also much more down to earth than other families of child stars. Let’s just begin with the fact that we don’t know much about their parents in the first place, whereas I can actually name Macaulay Culkin’s father, Kit, off the top of my head. We also all know far more about either parental Lohan than we ever wanted to know. That fact that Lindsay’s own parents are clearly her biggest enablers is so frustrating to watch.

The Olsen’s are interesting to me because they seem to have grown up accepting all of it as normally as possible. Granted, whenever you grow up doing something it is “your” normal even if it isn’t quite so average. But to be that recognized, at every single stage of your childhood, from before you could even remember what you were doing to now, and to do it without completely losing your shit, is amazing to me. That really is quite the feat. Other kids have grown up rich, but not as famous and come off as bigger assholes.  Some are famous but not as rich and are dicks or desperately try to play for attention. These girls, while they do court attention occasionally, avoid it for the most part. We may all know about their bohemian chic fashion and big sunglasses, but we don’t really know all that much about them. Which, given in the world we live in, is pretty impressive.

So that is who I find fascinating, the Olsen twins. I will probably end up watching New York Minute after I write this and you may think I am joking, but I am not. I might get drunk too. Blizzard!
